This info is applicable for yarns made of 100% plant- or animal-sourced fibers. Blends benefit also, and blends with more natural fiber benefit more than those with less natural fiber.

Knitting video demo: The Knit Stitch

A demonstration of how to do the knit stitch, with yarn held in the right hand (English style). There is no audio; simply follow along as the knit stitch is demonstrated, very slowly, twenty times. I refer to and demonstrate the 2nd stitch pause, in which the knitter makes the 2nd stitch of the row and then slightly cinches it up, which helps control the loops that can appear on the edge of the knitted piece.
